Dental ImplantsFor a superficial and temporary tooth replacement, the ideal choice may be a denture for some patients. But if your goal is to have a permanent tooth that will not come loose, shift, or need replacement after a few years, talk to your Parlin and Old Bridge, NJ dentist about dental implants. According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, this lasting treatment helps over a half a million Americans each year renew their confidence in the ability and stability of their smiles.

What Are Dental Implants?
Since early in humanity's history, people have been trying to figure out ways to improve their smiles, including replacing lost teeth. Now, instead of using shells and animal bones, modern dentists use small titanium posts called dental implants. They are compatible with the body’s bone tissue and eventually bond to the gumline after a few months. An implant serves as a firm foundation for a crown restoration, which in many cases will continue to look amazing for 10 or more years.

Do You Need Them?
If you have either recently lost a tooth or will need to have one extracted soon, discuss dental implants with your Parlin and Old Bridge, NJ dentist. This procedure has a much higher chance of being successful when you still have plenty of healthy bone tissue. If you have concerns about the teeth moving or you’re unsure about the long-term implications of getting dentures, implants are the natural solution. Keep in mind that in some cases, your dentist can create a unique denture device that is anchored with a few implants.

How Implants Are Placed
Though implantation is oral surgery, it is a relatively simple procedure. Your dentist makes room inside of the socket then carefully installs the tiny post. Over time bone tissue grows over the implant, holding it steady. You'll return to the office in a few months for a checkup to see if the implant is ready to be topped with an abutment and permanent crown.

See if Implants Will Help Your Smile
A dental exam is necessary if you are considering dental implants, and the sooner you have your teeth checked the better. Call today to set a time to see Dr. Anthony Vitale or Dr. Jin Yoo at Personal Choice Dental in Parlin or Old Bridge, NJ.

A lost tooth can haunt your smile for years, causing not only an immediate, unattractive gap in your smile but also other dental issues like dental implantsshifting teeth and bone atrophy. Traditional tooth replacement options can require extra steps in your daily dental routine. However, dental implants can replace your missing tooth and act as a natural looking and permanent replacement option, helping you avoid the nasty side effects of a missing tooth. Find out more about dental implants with Dr. Anthony Vitale and Dr. Jin Yoo at Personal Choice Dental with two locations in Old Bridge, NJ and another location in Parlin, NJ.

What can a dental implant do for me?
A dental implant is a versatile procedure, providing different results in different situations. In cases of a single missing tooth, one implant can replace one tooth. Sometimes, a patient has several missing teeth in a row. Two implants on either side of a dental bridge can replace all these teeth at once. If a patient has an entire arch of missing teeth, an implant-supported denture, using four or more implants throughout the arch to stay in place, replaces the teeth. Dental implants can also work together with other dental procedures to overhaul your smile.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
While dental implants can potentially help anyone with a missing tooth, not everyone is a good candidate. The best candidates are in good dental and general health. They should also have an adequate amount of bone volume left in the areas of their missing teeth. Some patients with severe bone atrophy may require a bone graft prior to their implant to rebuild the bone in that area. Ideally, an implant candidate is also free of teeth decay and gum disease and does not require treatment for these conditions.

These restorations can give you back that healthy smile. Find out how!restorative dentistry

Having a healthy smile shouldn’t feel like an impossibility. Of course, if you are faced with damaged or missing teeth then you may be feeling like having beautiful teeth just isn’t in the cards for you. Our Old Bridge, NJ, family dentist, Dr. Anthony Vitale, and periodontist, Dr. Jin Yoo, are here to tell you how dental crowns and bridges might be able to turn this all around.

About Dental Crowns

Most people already know what a dental crown is. Perhaps you already have one or you know someone who has. These restorations are a popular one because they are pretty versatile and can protect a tooth from incurring further damage. A crown is a hollowed out cap that is designed to look like a natural tooth and is custom made to fit over a tooth to protect it.

When are crowns used?

  • If you have a weak tooth that is at risk for further damage

  • If you have a broken or fractured tooth

  • If your tooth has sustained injury

  • If decay is so extensive that a dental filling won’t be able to support the tooth

  • If you have a malformed or severely discolored tooth

  • If you need to support a traditional dental bridge

  • If you need to cover a dental implant

Dental crowns are also made from durable tooth-colored material so that they look just like natural teeth and are strong enough to last several years before needing to be replaced.

About Dental Bridges

Losing a tooth doesn’t have to be the end of the world. If you have an otherwise healthy smile but need to replace one or more teeth in a row then a dental bridge might just be the best way to fill that gap.

Dental bridges are also made from tooth-colored material so no one will be able to tell that you have a false tooth. Bridges are also designed to last several years before needing to be replaced. A dental bridge uses dental crowns to hold the structure in place. You won’t have to worry about removing it to clean it; just treat your new tooth like the rest of your natural smile.

If you have considered straightening your smile with orthodontic care, you have probably come across traditional metal braces in your invisalignresearch. However, Invisalign, the clear answer to traditional braces, is also available for a more discreet orthodontic treatment. Comparing these two options may bring up questions as to whether Invisalign works as well as tried-and-true traditional braces. Find out with Dr. Anthony Vitale and Dr. Jin Yoo at Personal Choice Dental in Old Bridge, NJ.

Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

  • Appearance: The most noticeable difference between traditional braces and Invisalign is Invisalign’s lack of metal components. Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires to move the teeth while Invisalign uses clear, plastic aligner trays. These trays are mostly unnoticeable at first glance and are completely removable, making everyday tasks like eating or brushing less difficult.
  • Caring For Your Braces: Traditional braces require several extra steps in your oral care routine. Special threading flossers help floss underneath the brackets and wires and a water pick can help remove any debris or food particles lodged in or between the teeth. Invisalign simply requires that patients remove their trays, brush and floss normally, then rinse and reinsert the tray afterward.
  • Easy to Wear: Traditional braces’ wires are notorious for being sharp and potentially damaging the inside of the mouth. Invisalign’s trays are made from comfortable, flexible yet sturdy plastic which are custom-designed to fit precisely inside the patient’s mouth based on an impression of their mouth.

Does Invisalign work as well as traditional braces?

In short, the answer is yes. Invisalign effectively and safely corrects the same problems as traditional braces. In some complex cases, traditional braces may provide faster or better results than Invisalign though Invisalign can treat most orthodontic issues. All in all, for most patients, Invisalign and traditional braces will provide similar, adequate results.

Patients in Old Bridge should wear Invisalign at least 22 hours a day. Wearing the trays the proper amount of time is directly related to your final result. This means that failing to follow your treatment plan to the letter may result in lengthened treatment times or unsatisfactory results.

Tour implants will improve your look, fill in your gaps, and boost your self-esteem.

Implants can also hold implant-supported dentures in place,
